How to Copy Computer Games from CD to Your Hard Drive. Create a digital copy of a game disc on your harddrive so that you no longer have to insert a physical disc to play. This copy (also called a disc image or ISO) can be 'mounted'.

If the game is installed and authenticated through Steam, please follow these instructions instead.

Step A: Temporarily disable your anti-virus and security software:

1. From the Windows desktop, press and hold the Windows Key (Microsoft Logo) and the R Key together at the same time to open the Run Window,

2. Type msconfig and click OK,

3. Open My Computer (Windows Key + E in Windows 8) and locate your CD/DVD drive

4. Right click on the CD/DVD drive and select Explore

5. Click in the now open folder, from the keyboard press Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C to copy all of its contents.

6. Open the new folder, click inside it and from the keyboard press Ctrl+V to paste the disc contents into the folder.

7. If there are multiple discs, copy and paste all of the contents of each disc into the same new folder.

8. Eject any game discs.

9. Locate the installer file, typically titled 'run.exe' or 'install.exe'

10. Right click this file and select 'Run as administrator', then follow any of the installer's prompts or instructions.

11. Once the installation is complete, you may delete the folder containing the files copied from the disc.
