There are two ways to update drivers.

  1. Download the Driver Update Utility for HP.

  2. Double-click on the program to run it. It will then scan your computer and identify any problem drivers. You will see a results page similar to the one below:

Or, you can click the Update Drivers button at the bottom to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out-of-date on your system.

How to Install Drivers

After you have found the right driver, follow these simple instructions to install it.

  1. Power off your device.
  2. Disconnect the device from your computer.
  3. Reconnect the device and power it on.
  4. Double click the driver download to extract it.
  5. If a language option is given, select your language.
  6. Follow the directions on the installation program screen.
  7. Reboot your computer.

Refurbishing computers, or re-installing Windows on an existing computer, are tasks that most businesses have to go through as a cost-saving measure or as generalized computer support. Veterans of Windows installations know that you should download all the drivers needed for your motherboard and hardware before the installation procedure happens. While in theory you should have installation disks for all your hardware, for older machines this is increasingly unlikely. Most equipment vendors make their drivers downloadable from their websites, and you can download them, burn them to CD or copy them to a USB thumb drive and use them on another computer.

Gather up the manufacturer and part and model numbers for you motherboard, video card and network adapter. Once these three components have drivers, the new computer can get on the Internet.

Create a folder on the computer with Internet access called 'New System Files.'

Browse to the manufacturer's web sites and download the drivers needed for each of those components. Download them to the folder you created in Step 2.

Download an antivirus program. AVG, Avast and Microsoft Security Essentials are all free. Download this file to the folder you created in Step 2.

Open the “Desktop” application on the Start screen.

Insert a blank CD into the burner drive, or, if you're using a USB thumb drive, plug it into the USB port of the computer. A File Explorer window will open.

Drag the folder you created in Step 2 (with the files you added to it in Steps 3 and 4) to the window that opened up in Step 6. For the CD burning method, click the 'Share' tab, then click 'Burn to Disk.' You may be prompted to select which optical drive to write to, but in most cases you won't be. Click the 'Burn' button to start the write process. For the USB thumb drive method, nothing special needs to be done. The folder will be copied.

Remove the disc from the optical drive tray, or the USB drive from the USB port. You can delete the folder with the drivers in them on your computer if you don't think you'll need them in the future. Insert the USB drive in the destination computer's USB port, or load the CD in the destination computer's optical drive.

Double-click the setup file for the motherboard on the destination computer first, and follow its instructions. Direct the setup software to the CD or USB drive if it asks you for a driver location. You may be prompted to restart the computer.

Repeat this process with the video card drivers and the network adapter drivers, rebooting as needed.

Install the Antivirus software after the network card drivers have been installed, and before you take the destination computer onto the Internet.

Access the Internet and download any other needed software for the destination computer.
